Sacrifice

1 Chronicles 21:24 And king David said to Ornan, Nay; but I will verily buy it for the full price: for I will not take that which is thine for the Lord, nor offer burnt offerings without cost.

There are two mindsets when it comes to sacrifice. Give ‘til it hurts. I cannot buy that which is free. While I see these two things are extremes of the same issue, I have to say, the attitudes are not as wrong as the issue itself.

Both extremes are bound up in the attitude that they own something. One values highly that which is his, the other devalues that which is his. They own nothing, it is illusionary. They hold close to themselves an attitude that God seeks sacrifice of substance because of examples laid out before them which point to Jesus and the work of the cross. The mistake is seeing that Ornan, David or the temple mount had value important to God. Not so, it was what happened upon temple mount that was important because it pointed towards Jesus and the sacrifice He made in obedience of faith.

Daniel 4:35 And all the inhabitants of the earth are reputed as nothing: and he doeth according to his will in the army of heaven, and among the inhabitants of the earth: and none can stay his hand, or say unto him, What doest thou?

The two most important words to understand here are “His will”. My will changes nothing here. If I sacrifice my will in favor of God’s will, it changes nothing. What my sacrifice of will does do is allow for all the blessings of God’s promises to bring joy to my life in my relationship with God. God resists the proud and holding my will as important is pride.

Well what about all “my stuff”?

1 Corinthians 4:2 Moreover it is required in stewards, that a man be found faithful.

We are merely stewards of His stuff.

Commune

Exodus 25:22 And there I will meet with thee, and I will commune with thee from above the mercy seat, from between the two cherubims which are upon the ark of the testimony, of all things which I will give thee in commandment unto the children of Israel.

This issue of commune begins with a coming together. No discourse, no agreement, no sharing can be accomplish without first determining a place to meet. Note that the place of meeting had everything to do with purpose. Some examples are the judgment gate, the customs table and courts of the congregation. There has been for millennium a clear understanding of how and where to come together to commune.

God the Father has identified His choice for communing with His creation. He will speak to us from above the mercy seat, between the two cherubims upon the Ark of the Covenant. Interestingly the Ark of the Covenant has been hidden from our sight for some three thousand years. Or has it?

Leviticus 16:14 And he shall take of the blood of the bullock, and sprinkle it with his finger upon the mercy seat eastward; and before the mercy seat shall he sprinkle of the blood with his finger seven times.

Hebrews 2:8a,b Thou hast put all things in subjection under his feet. For in that he put all in subjection under him, he left nothing that is not put under him.

The two cherubims bowed down, showing submission, pointing their winds towards the mercy seat, indicating the created under submission to the sacrifice.

God has set the meeting place where He will commune with His creation. He pointed to the blood of the sacrifice, He put all under subjection to the One who made that sacrifice. That meeting place is in Christ.

Romans 8:1 There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.

Do you want to commune with your creator? Then you now know where to meet Him.
