Milk

1 Peter 2:2-3 As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby: If so be ye have tasted that the Lord is gracious.

The milk of the Word of God is merely the good news, the gospel. Drink it in and allow it to cause you to grow in Christ because it is the language primer of faith. To know it and to learn it with complete understanding, is to open the ears and eyes of understanding by faith.

The correlation between a new born and a newborn is Christ should encourage you in the method of growth in Christ. Mother’s milk is rich in fat causing a healthy baby to grow fast and develop a healthy appetite. As with babies, not all can move on to solid foods at the same rate, they must develop a stomach to digest other nutrients.

Deuteronomy 8:3 And he humbled thee, and suffered thee to hunger, and fed thee with manna, which thou knewest not, neither did thy fathers know; that he might make thee know that man doth not live by bread only, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of the Lord doth man live.

Psalm 34:10 The young lions do lack and suffer hunger; But they who seek the Lord shall not be in want of any good thing. (NASB)

2 Peter 2:17-18 Ye therefore, beloved, seeing ye know these things before, beware lest ye also, being led away with the error of the wicked, fall from your own stedfastness. But grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and for ever. Amen.

1 John 1:1 That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked upon, and our hands have handled, of the Word of life;

A steadfast diet of His Word promotes growth in Christ.

Living Sacrifice

Romans 12:1 I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.

How do we become a living sacrifice? What is a living sacrifice? Those are two important aspects of this born again journey we are exploring for the moment. We are still seeking to hear God by faith and to do so we need to be reborn. We have explored two aspects of rebirth and now we should talk about the third and most important aspect. Sacrifice.

Romans 6:11-13 Likewise reckon ye also yourselves to be dead indeed unto sin, but alive unto God through Jesus Christ our Lord. Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, that ye should obey it in the lusts thereof. Neither yield ye your members as instruments of unrighteousness unto sin: but yield yourselves unto God, as those that are alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness unto God.

Yield to God.

Think of this in the same way as traffic sign that says yield. You are asked to yield to the other traffic while driving a vehicle. If you yield everything is fine. If you fail to yield you put yourself and all your passengers at risk. You do not go through life alone, your decisions effect more than just yourself. If you yield to God you are safe.

This is ultimately that action that results from the repentance you made to be born again. That change from willful to willing, to forsake your own will for the will of God.

Psalm 40:8 I delight to do thy will, O my God: yea, thy law is within my heart.

Psalm 143:10 Teach me to do thy will; for thou art my God: thy spirit is good; lead me into the land of uprightness.

Hebrew 10:7 Then said I, Lo, I come (in the volume of the book it is written of me,) to do thy will, O God.

That new heart delights to do the will of God. God instructs us in His will. Our Christlike character seeks to do the will of God.
