Light Walk

Psalm 89:15 Blessed is the people that know the joyful sound: they shall walk, O Lord, in the light of thy countenance.

Psalm 119:105, 130 Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path. The entrance of thy words giveth light; it giveth understanding unto the simple.

No one likes to be called simple, so allow me to clarify this Hebrew word pĕthiy. The Hebrew-Chaldee Lexicon also defines it to mean opened minded and unskilled. While the unskilled can find the help necessary to navigate through this new life, the skilled should remain open minded. Pride easily sets in where great skills are found.

1 Corinthians 8:1ip … we know that we all have knowledge. Knowledge puffeth up…

No one likes a know it all. Truth should always be spoken with love, which is the last line of 1 Corinthians 8.1, but love edifies. Correction from the learned should be tempered with understanding, with compassion, as an offering and not as a sharp rebuke. The Word is simple.

Psalm 89:15 ends with the phrase “in the light of thy countenance.” In this case it is a facial expression, as in understanding the mind of one who is present, before you. This applies to the born again in that we have the indwelling Spirit of God. His expressions are often non-verbal, but yet still seen in the Light of His Word.

It takes a certain amount of skill to read His countenance properly.

2 Timothy 2:15 Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.

A person puffed up by knowledge, the know-it-all, tends to study the word less for understanding and uses it to prove himself to himself, not God. This begs to ask, what is God looking for from us in our studies?

Walking Worthy

1 John 1:7 But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin.

How you walk says everything about your attitude of confidence. A swagger can be read as ego. A slouch can be read as depression. A skip can been seen as joy. Those walks are you alone. What does your walk look like when you are with another person? That depends on your relationship doesn’t it? While a brother and sister might walk arm in arm, it isn’t the same as husband and wife walking arm in arm. Newlyweds walk different than couples who have been married for decades. Couples in love walk differently than couples tolerating one another. How does your walk with Jesus look?

It is obvious from the opening verse that this connection between walking in the light and our attitude towards ourselves is meant to be evident. How does it indicate you are walking with Jesus?

Psalm 37:37 Mark the perfect man, and behold the upright: for the end of that man is peace.

The Hebrew word her for “the perfect man” is tam. Perhaps the best definition is rendered as one who is morally and ethically pure. The end result of that life style is to be at peace with yourself. If you are walking in the light, the light guides you to choose the path of right choices.

If you are not walking in the light, you may find yourself making wrong choices and in that moment you should be aware that you have lost your peace. Ignore the security of the peace that walking with Jesus brings and you will find yourself suffering the consequences of your choices.
