Assume

Genesis 27:12 My father peradventure will feel me, and I shall seem to him as a deceiver; and I shall bring a curse upon me, and not a blessing.

With this act Jacob stole Esau’s blessing. On the face of it, Jacob could be counted as a thief. Assuming that a blessing can come about by bad behavior is the wrong message. If we allow ourselves to see bible messages in this manner we lead ourselves into bad choices based on vain imaginations.

Genesis 27:37 And Isaac answered and said unto Esau, Behold, I have made him thy lord, and all his brethren have I given to him for servants; and with corn and wine have I sustained him: and what shall I do now unto thee, my son?

Here is the essence of the lesson that the blessing could not be undone once given.

Have you become a son of adoption who cries Abba Father? That blessing cannot be undone. Knowing this and seeing the blessing fall upon you, do no assume too much in the blessing either.

“Nothing can take my blessing away, I can do whatever I want!”

Poor assumptions based on truth are still possible. King David sinned against God after his anointing and David escape punishment by forgiveness but the consequences for sin remained.

2 Samuel 12:13-14 And David said unto Nathan, I have sinned against the Lord. And Nathan said unto David, The Lord also hath put away thy sin; thou shalt not die. Howbeit, because by this deed thou hast given great occasion to the enemies of the Lord to blaspheme, the child also that is born unto thee shall surely die.

Our sins will give Satan all he needs to blaspheme against our Lord. We need to understand the whole truth and not assume anything that even smells of taking advantage of the blessings we receive.

Memorex

Galatians 2:20 I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.

In the early days of tape recordings there was a product called Memorex. It’s slogan was “Is it real or Memorex?” Here in this verse it might appear to some that Paul is saying it is Memorex.  “Yet not I” is a confusing phrase in this verse.

What would the purpose of conformance be if after surrendering our lives to Christ that we no longer existed and everything done thru us was Christ and not us? We are not puppets and God does not hold the strings causing us to dance to His music. We are still that not yet perfected human with one caveat, we are joined in the Spirit in our experience. While He is able to enact God’s will without our knowledge or cooperation that is not God’s design. God wants us to join Him in His activities. It is a shared experience.

The real key to the opening verse is living by faith.

Hebrews 11:6a But without faith it is impossible to please him:

I omitted the rest of the verse because I want to concentrate on the faith portion. A shared life is only possible by living a life of faith and that is pleasing to God. In any loving relationship no matter who the two parties might be, shared experiences are pleasing to both parties and help build a better and more stable relationship.

If we live our lives with this awareness of sharing this life with God perhaps then we might be more considerate of what He wants to do. He is kind and merciful and wants us to ask Him what it is He would like to do today, just like any relationship.
