Slippery Slopes

Psalm 37:23-24 English Standard Version

23 The steps of a man are established by the Lord, when he delights in his way; 24 though he fall, he shall not be cast headlong, for the Lord upholds his hand.

Yesterday was an exercise in humor. Some will laugh at the intentional errors of spelling and word selection. Others may be annoyed. Some might not even notice.

If we consider ourselves to be a serious person about serious subjects we are only allowing others to see just one side of ourselves. Fellowship is about sharing self and using every part of our makeup to allow others to relate to a real person and not a robot. Being real with people can only enhance our relationships and allow others access into all of our thoughts and ways.

There is a unique thought that can arise in others if all they see is one side of a person. They will instinctively feel that person is two faced. What is hidden that cannot be shown? Our natural instinct is to put our best foot forward. We instinctively want to be liked even if we feel unworthy of love. Nothing is as lonely as being in a crowd and feeling alone.

Being the answer man in every bible study does not allow others the opportunity to express themselves. If we do not allow others the freedom to be themselves how can we expect to love them for who they are in truth. No one in a group setting should feel like their personal thoughts are unwanted.

The passage provided today is about navigating those slippery slopes. Another way of saying it is that a person who does not stumble is not walking. We all want to walk with Christ. He is perfect, we are not. We will occasionally slip. If we are close to someone, we will see they have reached out to keep us from falling face first.

That is a sign of good fellowship.

Translation Evolution

The Hebrew word for fuller in Malachi is kâbaç, kaw-bas’; a primitive root; to trample.

We study the meanings behind ancient words of languages so old that the language itself has evolved. Our English dictionary includes how a word is misspelled or mispronounced as well as new usages or definition. English is so fluid it is difficult for some of us to keep track of current listings.

God knows about our abuse of language. The will of God is not frustrated by our failure to communicate properly. It is true that we often do use the wrong word by mistake. Some of us more than others. Sometimes it comes down too typing to fast and not editing our posts.

Self-editing will allow some mistakes to slip threw. It happens. That does not mean that God cannot use our tiny flaws to touch someone in a way we have not intended.

We that write and teach and correct and study diligently may get so busy in our conscious efforts that we forget it is God who is in charge of what is on our hearts.

I ramble from time to time in personal conversations and exasperate my listeners to the point of wanting to scream at me to stop belaboring the point. Did that expose impatience in the listener? Could God use my bad habits to speak to someone about their own faults?

I will repeat myself sometimes when I perceive that someone is not listening. Will that be used of God to point out how easily someone is distracted?

We are all imperfect creations with our own little quirks. That does not hinder God from using us in ways we did not intend or even aware of in the moment.

As an example of understanding, after the pastor has given his sermon, in the congregation, axe others what they heard that was meaningful.
