Comforting Words

Psalm 143:10 English Standard Version (ESV) Teach me to do your will, for you are my God! Let your good Spirit lead me on level ground!

I had a rough night last night. I’ve been troubled about it and when I went to the Word this was the verse of the day on Bible Gateway and it brought me comfort. Circumstances dictate need.

That was me in my circumstances and the Word brought me comfort. I do not expect anyone else to find the same comfort because it was my circumstance and no one else’s.

The issue is about turning to His Word when we are troubled and finding comfort. This passage tells us that God places us on level ground which makes it easy for us to find comforting verses when needed.

Do not expect it to be just this easy every time. Praise God when it is easy. Seek comfort in His Word until you find it. It is there, He is there and trust God because He loves us.

Trusting God is a little different than trusting people. We often feel that people need to earn our trust. God has already done everything required to earn our trust. We just need to study His Word to discover what He has already done.

Romans 1:20 English Standard Version (ESV) For his invisible attributes, namely, his eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly perceived, ever since the creation of the world, in the things that have been made. So they are without excuse.

The very first thing I could think of was His creation. So much beauty exists in this world. Some of my favorite shows on TV are seeing places I have not been to myself. So much beauty.

Psalm 139:13 English Standard Version (ESV) For you formed my inward parts; you knitted me together in my mother’s womb.

God created this life we live to enjoy His beauty.

James 1:17 English Standard Version (ESV) Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow due to change.

The best Father gives the best gifts.

Another Defacing

Matthew 5:16 English Standard Version (ESV) In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.

2 Corinthians 4:6 English Standard Version (ESV) For God, who said, “Let light shine out of darkness,” has shone in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.

Another kind of defacing occurs if we do not let our light shine.

2 Peter 1:19 English Standard Version (ESV) And we have the prophetic word more fully confirmed, to which you will do well to pay attention as to a lamp shining in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts,

Peter speaks of Christ as being that light in us. If we do not allow Him to shine in our lives it is just another way the enemy has seen to deny Christ which is another defacing, to obscure the glory in us that is meant to show Christ to the lost.

Peter reminds us to pay attention. Do not allow the events around us to keep us from being that light is dark places. I doubt seriously than anyone of us would deny that these are dark times. During dark times the light is needed all the more.

Jesus compels us to let His light shine before others. Do not allow feeling of doubt keep us from being that light. Everyone who has served God has felt that way from Moses to Gideon.

2 Corinthians 12:10 English Standard Version (ESV) For the sake of Christ, then, I am content with weaknesses, insults, hardships, persecutions, and calamities. For when I am weak, then I am strong.

2 Corinthians 13:8-9 English Standard Version (ESV) For we cannot do anything against the truth, but only for the truth. For we are glad when we are weak and you are strong. Your restoration is what we pray for.

When we think “I cannot”, believe that He can. Pray for each other.
