Christ Revealed

1 Corinthians 2:10-11 English Standard Version

10 these things God has revealed to us through the Spirit. For the Spirit searches everything, even the depths of God. 11 For who knows a person’s thoughts except the spirit of that person, which is in him? So also no one comprehends the thoughts of God except the Spirit of God.

Revelation is a disclosure of truth, instruction, concerning divine things before unknown — especially those relating to the Christian salvation — given to the soul by God himself, or by the ascended Christ, especially through the operation of the Holy Spirit, and so to be distinguished from other methods of instruction; (source BLB.ORG)

Key in this definition are these words “distinguished from other methods of instruction”.

John 6:63 English Standard Version (ESV) It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh is no help at all. The words that I have spoken to you are spirit and life.

The flesh is no help at all. Our flesh cannot reveal Christ in us to us. He is revealed by the Holy Spirit in us. We have to read His Word with eyes of flesh and we commend our understanding to a mind that is flesh but when we meditate on the word, when our thinking gets it right, the Holy Spirit in us testifies with a “Yes and Amen”.

That yes and amen is heard in the spirit by faith.

Romans 10:17 English Standard Version (ESV) So faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the word of Christ.

That is when faith in us agrees with faith in Christ. That is being like minded, having the mind of Christ.

Discover Christ

Proverbs 16:20 English Standard Version (ESV) Whoever gives thought to the word will discover good, and blessed is he who trusts in the Lord.

Jesus said there are none good but God. But He is God if we believe His Word.

We read the bible, we do bible studies, we attend Sunday school and listen to our pastors sharing the gospel. What does it mean to give thought to the Word beyond all that?

Perhaps meditating on His Word is different from any of those activities.

Vine’s dictionary has a primary definition of meditate as “to care for” and a secondary meaning of “to attend to”.

I liken those definitions to gardening, as in Adam’s first job was to attend to the garden, which meant to grow healthy foods and to pull weeds.

Our minds have to cultivate a garden of knowledge of His Word. What abides in our hearts is pure but our access is first found in our memory.

Philippians 4:8 English Standard Version (ESV) Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things.

Think about it.

Do we understand it? Do we believe it? Do we trust it? Do we use it?

Have we discovered Christ in His Word?
