Forgetful

Psalm 119:93 I will never forget thy precepts: for with them thou hast quickened me.

Perhaps Psalm 119 is the longest because it is so full of good stuff. Here today we use this psalm to hi-lite an issue of forgetfulness. The older I get the more forgetful I become. It is a dreadful condition of a body in decay. It happens, there is not much of anything we can do about it. What does that say about me?

Are you only the sum of your memories? I don’t think so, I hope not. It is sad to see a person who is in decline that has nothing to cling to but memories. Life should be surrounded by relationships not just memories. Somehow if we continue to focus purely on memories, we miss the finer point of this psalm verse. The quickening spirit!

Psalm 57:7 My heart is fixed, O God, my heart is fixed: I will sing and give praise.

Psalm 119:58 I intreated thy favour with my whole heart: be merciful unto me according to thy word.

Psalm 119:80 Let my heart be sound in thy statutes; that I be not ashamed.

The quickening changed who you are and as long as you have not forgotten who you are, then His precepts will not fade away in memory, they are who you are in Christ Jesus. We are more than the sum of our memories, life is more than what has been spent.

Forgetful is not unfaithful.

  1. This reminded me of the grandfather of a school buddy. The old fella said, all I have to look forward to is the past. He (my buddy) even wanted me to write a CW song about that – I couldn’t.
    Another fine posting.
