He Knows

Matthew 27:46 And about the ninth hour Jesus cried with a loud voice, saying, Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani? that is to say, My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?

Yesterday I spoke to you about being abandoned. Jesus knows how that feels. Here at the end of His earthly life God the Father had to abandon Jesus because the sins of the world were placed upon Him as He became the perfect sacrifice for sin. This is the only way God’s sense of justice would ever be satisfied. At the moment, Jesus became sin.

2 Corinthians 5:21 For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.

Jesus knew what it meant to be abandoned in the truest sense. Because He knew, He made a provision for us so that we should never have to feel that way again.

John 16:7 Nevertheless I tell you the truth; It is expedient for you that I go away: for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you; but if I depart, I will send him unto you.

Jesus knew that He had to go and sit on the right-hand throne of God. He made provision for those feelings of abandonment. We who have accepted Jesus Christ by faith have the Comforter and we are never alone. The Holy Spirit fills that empty place in my heart that was once the forsaken man.

The very last words yesterday were “That can change.” That emptiness that sin creates because it separates us from God is not a part of my life any more. It is my fondest wish that you know how this feels. Perhaps you feel abandoned. Perhaps you are alone.

Jesus died on the cross and was raised from the dead and is seated on the right-hand throne of God just so that you do not have to be alone ever. Sin is no longer an excuse, it has been dealt with by Jesus Christ, that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.

Come join us in Christ.
