Joel 2:28 English Standard Version
The Lord Will Pour Out His Spirit
28 “And it shall come to pass afterward, that I will pour out my Spirit on all flesh; your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your old men shall dream dreams, and your young men shall see visions.
I have been having strong dreams lately. Last night I had a dream that I was chosen to teach a group of new believers. Instantly I thought of Joel 2 verse 28. That was fresh on my mind from my last post. As I revisited the passage it struck me that my dream was not a message from the Lord as an instruction for what to do next. I know this because of two truths.
The first is that my gift is not teaching. I could see that in the dream.
The second and more importantly is in the first words of verse 28. “It shall come to pass afterwards”. That which comes in order indicates where we are in our instructions from our Lord. He does things in order.
I was not prepared to post the Word of the Lord this morning and I prayed on it and this came to me. How do we use the scriptures to direct our lives in Christ?
Strong dreams may come now but we must seek understanding in His Word to connect with Him to take meaning in the spirit and not from our subconscious desires. I do not know what a dreamer in Joel 2:28 will dream or how to respond to those dreams because what happened before that point in prophecy has not happened yet.
It is likely that the Lord will instruct us to do something we do not want to do in the flesh than it is that He will give into our subconscious desires. We must be aware of His Word.
John 6:63 English Standard Version (ESV) It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh is no help at all. The words that I have spoken to you are spirit and life.
Galatians 3:3 English Standard Version(ESV) Are you so foolish? Having begun by the Spirit, are you now being perfected by the flesh?
Galatians 5:17 English Standard Version (ESV)For the desires of the flesh are against the Spirit, and the desires of the Spirit are against the flesh, for these are opposed to each other, to keep you from doing the things you want to do.
