Fragrance

2 Corinthians 2:14 But thanks be to God, who in Christ always leads us in triumphal procession, and through us spreads the fragrance of the knowledge of him everywhere.

Recently I mentioned that Jesus refers to human sense to express spiritual matters. Here in this passage we hear again about another sense, smelling like Jesus. It is not like we can buy Jesus cologne and splash it on liberally.  Or is it just that simple?

That fragrance is the knowledge of Him. To walk with Him is to know Him. Perhaps this is why Paul uses the words triumphal procession. Think about that for a moment. What is a procession?

The Oxford dictionary lists a secondary meaning; Theology – the emanation of the Holy Spirit. Emanation is defined as an abstract but perceptible thing that issues or originates from a source.

Since the Holy Spirit is God and we cannot make God do anything against His will, then not only the fragrance but the perception of the source is beyond our control. So the procession is a vital part of our experience, to walk with Jesus by faith. Follow His lead and do not worry about those things beyond our control.

Perhaps, just perhaps, this is why God says follow me without saying where we are going. If we knew we might balk. A balk gives our opponent an advantage such as advancing a runner without the ball being struck. This is not a game but the principle still applies. Our enemy will take every opportunity to point out every little flaw in us.

Let us not get off track. It is not about us, this is about walking with Jesus by faith. We should not concern ourselves with the destination, only the procession.

Where am I going with this? Well from my personal experience, I focused so much on end time prophecies that I stopped walking at all. We want to anticipate what is next like it will make a difference in our preparations. Well Jesus sent out His disciples with power to prove He was with them in Spirit, He instructed them to take nothing with them, no preparations.

God will provide what we need when we need it. This too is more a matter of experience than trying to convince anyone of what to do. Just walk with Jesus and enjoy His company. My advice might stink but His does not.
