John 14:6 (parsed) Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life.
This is the third article invoking directions to come to a final solution. More on that tomorrow. Today let us focus on the issue of life.
The Word tells us we are born spiritually dead. The third chapter of the gospel of John lays out a road map of how to overcome that deficit. That is an issue that many do not want to face, we were born spiritually bankrupt. There is nothing we have that will change that debt we owe except the only thing that we came into this world owning, our life.
When Jesus says He is the life it is an indication of how He makes it possible to end our spiritual bankruptcy and have a life with Him that is spiritually full.
Matthew 18:23 “Therefore the kingdom of heaven may be compared to a king who wished to settle accounts with his servants.”
Justification is an accounting term, which indicates how God the Father clears His children from the debt they owe. That is God settling our debts for us.
Romans 3:26 It was to show his righteousness at the present time, so that he might be just and the justifier of the one who has faith in Jesus.
It is God that justifies us, there is nothing we can do to repay our spiritual debt. We have to believe we owe that to God or else we will not accept the free will gift of God paying off that debt for us.
At this point some might think we have gone far afield of the issue of life with Jesus. Think of it in these terms, which is something many can relate to in life. A woman has found herself in huge financial debt due to circumstances beyond her control. Then she meets the man of her dreams that loves her without any concerns for her past mistakes or her debt. She accepts his proposal and he pays off her debt.
We are the bride of Christ, He is our betrothed, and He has paid off our debt and now we have a life with Him.
We have to accept we were spiritually dead when born and we owe our very life to God and in order for God the Father to justify His Son’s bride’s debt, the bride has to accept the Son’s dowry, His earnest payment to ensure His intentions.
Jesus is the way and the truth to that life we can have with Him as His betrothed.
