Type in apocalypse to your bible search engine and it will take you to the book of revelation.
Type it into google and you will get an event involving destruction or damage on an awesome or catastrophic scale.
The word is Greek and does mean revelation. Here is Strong’s Definition.
STRONGS G602:
ἀποκάλυψις, -εως, ἡ, (ἀποκαλύπτω, which see), an uncovering;
1. properly, a laying bare, making naked.
2. tropically, in N. T. and ecclesiastical language [see end],
a. a disclosure of truth, instruction, concerning divine things before unknown — especially those relating to the Christian salvation — given to the soul by God himself, or by the ascended Christ, especially through the operation of the Holy Spirit, and so to be distinguished from other methods of instruction;
During a recent storm we received a weather alert for a tornado watch, then the power went out for seven hours. All our electronics were rendered useless, no tv, no lights, the garage door opener would not even allow us to use the car. Suddenly we were left alone to fend for ourselves, feeling vulnerable and exposed. All I could do was listen for the sounds of what might become of us if a tornado were to hit.
That is a real world application of apocalypse not a biblical one. We were laid bare, void of technology, and we had to face what we were without it.
Biblical apocalypse is receiving the truth and with that instruction all the lies are seen for what they are and where they come from.
- John 8:31
The Truth Will Set You Free
So Jesus said to the Jews who had believed him, “If you abide in my word, you are truly my disciples, - John 8:32
and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”
In the storm we were more concerned with loss of life and property than where we might go if we should die that night. We know where we are going when we die, but that is about all we know.
Ease of life has made us soft. If a world defined apocalypse were to happen our imaginations become a fictional characterization fueled by movies based on fear. We are not prepared to live a life of “preppers” armed to the teeth and ready to defend what little food supplies we have nor will we take by force what others might have stored.
Which apocalypse befalls us today?
