Partaking

2 Peter 1:4 Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.

We left off yesterday amazed at the possibility of being partakers in His divine nature. So let us once again look at this precious promise and discover how this all came about.

Romans 8:14-17 For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God. For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father. The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God: And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified together.

So many times when we think of heirs we think of an inheritance, wealth, property, and all the earthly trappings that are associated with the reading of a will. Rethink that concept in the light of this scripture.

John 3:35 The Father loveth the Son, and hath given all things into his hand.

John 1:14, 16 And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth. And of his fulness have all we received, and grace for grace.

Romans 8:29-30 For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren. Moreover whom he did predestinate, them he also called: and whom he called, them he also justified: and whom he justified, them he also glorified.

We inherit His divine nature.

Be Filled

Exodus 31:3 And I have filled him with the spirit of God, in wisdom, and in understanding, and in knowledge, and in all manner of workmanship,

I cannot stress enough the importance of the abiding Spirit of God within us. Having made Jesus Christ the Lord of our lives places the Holy Spirit in our hearts. This is everything. Nothing can be done without Him.

John 15:5 I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing.

Our earnest expectations are all based on this one promise, His abiding presence.

Philippians 1:20 According to my earnest expectation and my hope, that in nothing I shall be ashamed, but that with all boldness, as always, so now also Christ shall be magnified in my body, whether it be by life, or by death.

2 Corinthians 1:21-22 Now it is God who makes both us and you stand firm in Christ. He anointed us, set his seal of ownership on us, and put his Spirit in our hearts as a deposit, guaranteeing what is to come. (NIV)

The most precious the deposit, the more precious the possession. We are precious to Him.

Psalm 27:14 He shall redeem their soul from deceit and violence: and precious shall their blood be in his sight.

2 Peter 1:4 Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.

We are to be partakers of His divine nature. This just gets better and better. First He talks to us, then He takes up residence inside our hearts and now we have the opportunity to partake of His divine nature.
