Lines

Matthew 23:23 Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye pay tithe of mint and anise and cummin, and have omitted the weightier matters of the law, judgment, mercy, and faith: these ought ye to have done, and not to leave the other undone.

We all have an understanding of where we draw the line. Whether you are aware of it or not, we all do. Where that line is varies widely. We most often think of it in terms of wrong, or sin. “I will not do that.” We might even from time to time redraw that line. That isn’t the point.

We also draw a line and do not give one thought to it. That line is draw by “this is what I do” which would be those things you see as good things. We more often associate our identities with those good deeds, rather than the abstinences, but those two lines sort of define who we are don’t they? Or do they?

Let us stand with Jesus at either one of those lines, it matters not which. Now look at everyone on the other side of your line and apply Jesus’ words to how you treat those people on the other side. “Leave not righteous judgment, mercy and faith undone.” Where you draw the line for yourselves matters not, but rather how you treat the people on the other side.

Romans 11:31-32 Even so have these also now not believed, that through your mercy they also may obtain mercy. For God hath concluded them all in unbelief, that he might have mercy upon all.

Reliability

2 Chronicles 16:8 Were not the Ethiopians and the Lubims a huge host, with very many chariots and horsemen? yet, because thou didst rely on the Lord, he delivered them into thine hand.

We dropped our land line telephone service. We have cell phones to communicate with anywhere, so why pay for what we don’t use. The batteries run down constantly and need to be recharged. We get dropped calls sometimes when we are between cell towers or in a dead zone.

We cannot get cable where we live so we use satellite service which goes out during thunder storms or electrical outages. Squirrels eat the insolation off our DSL line.

The point is that all communication of an earthly nature are reliant on a system of support which are by design meant to wear, break, be repaired or replaced.

Not so with God. God does not rely on anything to communicate, He is totally independent of any failing subsystem. He is the provider of eyes to see and ears to hear and those never fail, never need replacing, never need to be recharged.

However, like the phone ringing in the other room, one has to pick up to receive the call. So since faith comes by hearing and hearing by the Word, then I encourage you brothers and sisters in Christ.

“Pick up people!!”
