Follow Truth

John 14:17 Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you.

John 16:13 Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come.

Yesterday I made the assertion that truth is objective. I ended with scripture that said Jesus Christ is truth. Some might not have understood my assertion. Let me follow up with a definition of objective which clarifies my point.

Objective: noun; something that one’s efforts or actions are intended to attain or accomplish a purpose, goal, or target.

Jesus Christ is a pronoun, truth is a noun. In this definition Christ is the one whose actions, efforts, and words have a purpose, a goal, a target. The life of Jesus Christ is an objective truth. All that He did was the will of the Father to bring us into right relationship with God. The Holy Spirit, the third person of God, is the Spirit of truth.

While I cannot trust myself to know the truth, I can trust God. His Word is truth. It is worthy of my trust. His promises are truth, I can trust His promises. His Spirit is truth, I can trust in Him.

Subjective truths are not trustworthy. They exist to serve themselves. They do not love me.

1 Peter 1:22 (complete) Seeing ye have purified your souls in obeying the truth through the Spirit unto unfeigned love of the brethren, see that ye love one another with a pure heart fervently:

Follow truth, find love.
