Exodus 20:1 And God spake all these words, saying,
Exodus 20:19 And they said unto Moses, Speak thou with us, and we will hear: but let not God speak with us, lest we die.
From Exodus 20:2 thru verse 17 God spoke the Ten Commandments. The people didn’t want to hear it. I have often wondered if the problem people have with hearing God is because they do not want to hear what He has to say. Here in Exodus 20 God spoke and the people heard and it scared them to death.
We who are in Christ have accepted our Lord and Savior. We love Him and fear should not keep us from hearing His voice. Yet constantly I hear fellow Christians proclaim they have not heard God. I wonder why. Isn’t there some hearing test which will help us identify our hearing problem?
The first thing that has to be addressed is a need to take the test. If you do not know that you have a problem, you do not know that you need to be tested. Saying that you do not hear God is acknowledgment of the problem, yet it does not cause everyone to take a hearing test.
Is it possible that some do not want to hear God? That like the followers of Exodus 20:19, they are willing to have a Moses speak but do not want to hear directly from God? Fear kept them from listening. Do we have followers of Christ who only want pastors and teachers and preachers to tell them what God has to say, because they are afraid of what God might have to say?
I cannot answer that question for you. All I know is what I hear of the Lord and this He said about that.
Isaiah 6:8-10 Also I heard the voice of the Lord, saying, Whom shall I send, and who will go for us? Then said I, Here am I; send me. And he said, Go, and tell this people, Hear ye indeed, but understand not; and see ye indeed, but perceive not. Make the heart of this people fat, and make their ears heavy, and shut their eyes; lest they see with their eyes, and hear with their ears, and understand with their heart, and convert, and be healed.
