Isaiah 61 7

Isaiah 61:7 English Standard Version (ESV) Instead of your shame there shall be a double portion; instead of dishonor they shall rejoice in their lot; therefore in their land they shall possess a double portion; they shall have everlasting joy.

We must be careful to read this verse in context as it appears after identifying our place in the ministering of the gospel to the lost. Verse 6 showed us what we are to become, and now we shall receive a double portion. We must ask ourselves what is our portion that is to be doubled?

Once again we must look to scripture to explain scripture.

2 Kings 2:9 English Standard Version (ESV) When they had crossed, Elijah said to Elisha, “Ask what I shall do for you, before I am taken from you.” And Elisha said, “Please let there be a double portion of your spirit on me.”

Romans 12:3 English Standard Version (ESV) For by the grace given to me I say to everyone among you not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think, but to think with sober judgment, each according to the measure of faith that God has assigned.

In order to double a portion, first we need a measure to identify that double portion. We are each given a measure of faith and at placing our faith in Christ, it is doubled.

Matthew 25:16, 19-21 English Standard Version

16 He who had received the five talents went at once and traded with them, and he made five talents more.  19 Now after a long time the master of those servants came and settled accounts with them. 20 And he who had received the five talents came forward, bringing five talents more, saying, ‘Master, you delivered to me five talents; here, I have made five talents more.’ 21 His master said to him, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant. You have been faithful over a little; I will set you over much. Enter into the joy of your master.’

May the Spirit of the Lord speak to all of us about our portion. Amen
