Show Christ

Yesterday I expressed my discipleship method as showing my disciple how to be a Christian.

2 Corinthians 3:2-4 English Standard Version

2 You yourselves are our letter of recommendation, written on our hearts, to be known and read by all. 3 And you show that you are a letter from Christ delivered by us, written not with ink but with the Spirit of the living God, not on tablets of stone but on tablets of human hearts. 4 Such is the confidence that we have through Christ toward God.

The first step in discipleship must be an interview with the disciple to get their salvation story. They need to be able to express how they came to Christ. We must listen in the spirit to discover if that person is saved or still outside the community of believers.

We cannot disciple the lost. They must be evangelized. Those are two different approaches.

We are like the Corinthians Paul is speaking about. We are letters of recommendations. Those letters are written on our hearts and if our disciples that are saved are given the opportunity to read them, we must open up our hearts to them to be read.

Whatever “program” is being used to disciple individuals we must remember that a goal of discipleship is to show Christ by allowing them to read our letters of recommendation written on our hearts. The “program” being used is nothing more than a way to see if the disciple is reading the Word in the spirit or in the flesh.

Homework results will reveal to us in the spirit if they are “getting it”. Discipleship is a long term program that has one purpose, to allow the disciple to let the Holy Spirit lead them and take over our role of revealing Christ.

The ultimate goal of discipleship is for the disciple to discover Christ in themselves and to allow the Holy Spirit to lead them in truth. That is the confidence we have through Christ in God.
