Hebrews 2:6-8 English Standard Version
6 It has been testified somewhere,
“What is man, that you are mindful of him,
or the son of man, that you care for him?
7 You made him for a little while lower than the angels;
you have crowned him with glory and honor,
8 putting everything in subjection under his feet.”
Now in putting everything in subjection to him, he left nothing outside his control. At present, we do not yet see everything in subjection to him.
Psalm 8:4-6 English Standard Version
4 what is man that you are mindful of him,
and the son of man that you care for him?
5 Yet you have made him a little lower than the heavenly beings
and crowned him with glory and honor.
6 You have given him dominion over the works of your hands;
you have put all things under his feet,
Somewhere is Psalm 8 but the author of Hebrews does not give the chapter and verse. We must overlook that little omission because the Old Testament scrolls did not have an address until 1066 A.D.
The author did not even make reference to a Psalm of David. What is interesting is the exact quote is followed with words that are similar in content but not a direct quote.
In Hebrews it is mentioned that they had not seen everything is in subjection to him. In the Psalm it was acknowledged that all things are under his feet.
The only way to resolve those two passages together as truth is to recognize that a King has dominion even over those who are in rebellion.
We live in a world that does not recognize Christ on the throne. That does not make it any less true.
Why don’t the lost recognize Christ’s Lordship?
Psalm 25:6 English Standard Version (ESV) Remember your mercy, O Lord, and your steadfast love, for they have been from of old.
Perhaps we haven’t shown HIm to be merciful and loving.
