John 14:15 If ye love me, keep my commandments.
If you love me. Four more words that are integrated into the life of those who have entered into the Eternal Kingdom of Jesus Christ. But once again, if your position is in the world, and not in Christ, what do those words mean?
We have established that keeping the law is impossible and that salvation only comes by grace. So why is it asked of love to keep commandments? Jesus Himself defined the commandments in the simplest and most basic terms of the commandments.
Matthew 22:37-40 Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.
Before you say, no problem, let’s go for it, I must remind you that if you are in the world, you only know love as the world knows it. To be in Christ is to know the love of God in a way the world could never match. You can want it, but you cannot match it because it is perfect in form and function. Agape love.
If I couldn’t understand it and I couldn’t perform it, then what am I to do? Well that is where the next five words come into play. “I will send a helper.”
John 14:26 But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.
To those who are born again, who become Kingdom dwellers, the Comforter is given.
You didn’t think God was going to leave something so precious in the hands of the fallible did you?
