Celebrity

Zephaniah 3:17 The Lord thy God in the midst of thee is mighty; he will save, he will rejoice over thee with joy; he will rest in his love, he will joy over thee with singing.

Which celebrity do you know? Is it a singer, an actor, or perhaps even a television evangelist? Do you really know them or just know all about them? These days there is so much information available about celebrities it does seem like you know them, because so much of their life is very public. Fame will do that. Fame exposes celebrity to scrutiny.

How well do you know Jesus Christ? Do you read all that is written about Him? Have you read all or many of the commentaries that delve deeply into insights and background like a New York Times investigative reporter? Do you have all the skinny on this man God we call Lord of Lords and King of Kings?

Yes? Great!

Does your real world celebrity know you? Does this singer, actor or television personality know more about you than you know about yourself? No? I understand.

Does Jesus know you?

Matthew 25:12 But he answered and said, Verily I say unto you, I know you not.

Here is a reply to the foolish virgins. Please note these were declared virgins, pure in the sight of men, harmless and worthy. Yet they did not gain access because the Lord did not know them.

So many know Jesus as celebrity and believe that all they have to do to obtain eternal life is to know and obey the scriptures and eternal life is theirs. What they failed to understand is that this is a relationship.

To properly understand, go to the door of your favorite celebrity, which you “know so well” and knock at that door.

But I Do

Ecclesiastes 11:5 As thou knowest not what is the way of the spirit, nor how the bones do grow in the womb of her that is with child: even so thou knowest not the works of God who maketh all.

But I do know the way of the spirit!

This statement was true enough when Solomon wrote them before Christ. Every encounter that man had with God in the form of the Holy Spirit was external and mysterious.

John 3:8 The wind bloweth where it listeth, and thou hearest the sound thereof, but canst not tell whence it cometh, and whither it goeth: so is every one that is born of the Spirit.

We are that great mystery to everyone who is not born of the spirit. But we who are born of the spirit, walk in the spirit, we know the way of the spirit. The spirit is no longer a mystery to us.

Ephesians 3:3, 17a, 19b How that by revelation he made known unto me the mystery; That Christ may dwell in your hearts by faith; that ye might be filled with all the fulness of God.

It was not possible in Solomon’s time for God to dwell in man. So holy and pure is God that no mortal man could live in the presence of God. But Christ, by His obedience, His death and resurrection made it possible for God to dwell in man by faith. He changed that.

John 14:17 Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you.

We become the great mystery to those who do not believe because like Solomon so many years ago, they cannot see the indwelling spirit and know His ways.

You must be born again of the spirit to know Him who is spirit.
