Face Changing

2 Corinthians 3:18 But we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory, even as by the Spirit of the Lord.

Events of this week has caused me to look at images of my trip to national parks around America. Then I noticed something in common among all the places we went. It involved water falls, big and small, cold or hot, it mattered not. The water changed the landscape in a way that even if the water was not flowing in full force, you could see evidence of the affect the water had on those surfaces because they were changed by the deposits made on those natural surfaces.

Some of the hot springs of Yellowstone left bright colorful deposits as they steadily streamed down day after day. The tall towering waterfalls of Yosemite flowed only from April until early August but the 2,000 foot drop left a dark and brooding reminder of what had been there and what would come again as the icy cold snowfields would come and go again the next season of change.

Such is the power of the Holy Spirit to leave a deposit upon your face. Your natural face, like those natural surfaces cannot stop the deposits. It is the nature of the Holy Spirit to change the landscape of your life, thru no will of your own, but by the power of the Spirit that flows over you and thru you.

Moses placed a veil upon his face to hide the glory that was like Bridalveil Falls in Yosemite which flows year round for it has no great height. Aspire to greater heights and allow the deposits to be seen of all men if you run cold. If you run hot, nothing needs to be done, you couldn’t hide the deposits even if you tried.

First Cause

Job 9:20 If I justify myself, mine own mouth shall condemn me: if I say, I am perfect, it shall also prove me perverse.

I have been thinking about what it takes for any one of us to come to Christ. While my story is different from yours I believe that the underlying cause is the same, even if the surface tale sounds different. It all stems from this first cause, self-realization. “If I” is loaded with doubt about self-sufficiency, it acknowledges the need for help obtaining something which self cannot grasp on its own. The reason I say something is because until you know, that something is an unknown.

It begins with an awareness of something missing. You hear words and promises and testimonies and you search yourself and find nothing. Nothing you have done or thought, believed or trusted in has filled that empty place where you are truly alone, in self.

The treasure trove of the heart cannot be filled with things because the nature of things cannot match the very nature of self. Nothing that I can obtain for self can fill that treasure trove, there is no way to place things in a box which has no lid. That treasure trove will always be empty not matter how many things you place upon it, not in it.

Luke 2:34-35 And Simeon blessed them, and said unto Mary his mother, Behold, this child is set for the fall and rising again of many in Israel; and for a sign which shall be spoken against; (Yea, a sword shall pierce through thy own soul also,) that the thoughts of many hearts may be revealed.

Only the love of Jesus Christ can pierce the lonely heart and fill it from within, because He gave His Self in order to do so.

All you have to do is love Him for what He did, that which you could not do, and be filled with that love you did not know until you knew it.

Do this and you will never be alone again.
