In The Way

Mark 10:32a And they were in the way going up to Jerusalem; and Jesus went before them: and they were amazed; and as they followed, they were afraid.

What do you think when someone says “You’re in the way”?  Aren’t you seen as an impediment?

The term “in the way” is used 93 times in the bible. One of the first occurrences is found in Genesis.

Genesis 24:27c I being in the way, the Lord led me

In the truest sense being “In the Way” is to be in Christ, to be a follower of Christ, to be led by our Lord and Savior. Remember that Jesus said to us, “I am the Way” in John 14:6.

If that is true for you, the next parts of Mark 10:32 are also true. You will be amazed at what Christ does in you and thru you. Along with that will come a certain amount of fearfulness because you will become an impediment to other people’s sin desire. You will be challenged for your belief and steadfast stance for truth and the life you live.

The world says, “Get out of my way!”

Can you see yourself as an impediment to sin? James and John, the sons of Zebedee did. When challenged over their ability to walk “in the Way” they answered without hesitation “we can”.

Read Mark 10:32-52 and answer for yourselves Christ’s call to walk with Him “in the Way”.

Tunnel Vision

In yesterday’s reading from Mark 10:13-31 there are these words.

“receive an hundredfold now in this time, houses, and lands,”

If you have read the assignment you know that is not what was said and you know there is much more to the telling than the false appearance of a reward. It looks that way to a certain group of students of the Word because they have tunnel vision. All they are looking for is “what’s in it for me?”

Throughout history we can name the condition if not specific names. Christendom gathered a bad reputation over the centuries because of bad actors. They gained control of peoples, cities, countries and continents because all their tunnel vision would allow them to see what was in it for them.

What I left out of the original quote is your only reward in this present time. Brethren, and sisters, and mothers, and children are your reward.

2 Corinthians 12:17-19 Did I make a gain of you by any of them whom I sent unto you? I desired Titus, and with him I sent a brother. Did Titus make a gain of you? walked we not in the same spirit? walked we not in the same steps? Again, think ye that we excuse ourselves unto you? we speak before God in Christ: but we do all things, dearly beloved, for your edifying.

Proverbs 11:30 The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life; and he that winneth souls is wise.
