Truth

Psalm 119:160 (KJV) Thy word is true from the beginning: and every one of thy righteous judgments endureth for ever.

What is the truth?

I didn’t grow up in a house that taught the Word of God. I didn’t have any preconceptions about God, Jesus, religion, nor a variety of topics that cover a wide range of doctrines. I didn’t even know what doctrine meant.

Others have been raised up and taught doctrine in accordance with their administrative services. The bible even admits to differences in administrations. That would be fine if it stopped at administration but it doesn’t. Doctrines vary and there is a wide range of opinions on some important matters.

If a person is raised up in another religion which does not espouse the deity of Jesus Christ we have some understanding of why their truths differ from ours so greatly. Their truths consist of what they have been taught. To some degree different administrations of faith are not all that much different. We tend to believe what we were taught.

Now here is the truth. His name if Jesus Christ and only Jesus is truth. The Holy Spirit will only testify of the words of truth spoken by Jesus. The Holy Spirit does not have an opinion that isn’t perfectly aligned with Christ’s Word.

Ephesians 5:25-27 (ESV)

25 Husbands, love your wives, as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her, 26 that he might sanctify her, having cleansed her by the washing of water with the word, 27 so that he might present the church to himself in splendor, without spot or wrinkle or any such thing, that she might be holy and without blemish.

This washing of water with the word is a representation of removing not only unclean thoughts but also in making corrections of false doctrines. If we do not submit ourselves to the corrections of errors put on us by administrative doctrines, we will not come to know the truth as we ought to know it.

Comforting Prophecy

2 Thessalonians 2:7-10 (ESV)

For the mystery of lawlessness is already at work. Only he who now restrains it will do so until he is out of the way. And then the lawless one will be revealed, whom the Lord Jesus will kill with the breath of his mouth and bring to nothing by the appearance of his coming. The coming of the lawless one is by the activity of Satan with all power and false signs and wonders, 10 and with all wicked deception for those who are perishing, because they refused to love the truth and so be saved.

I said recently that prophecies are comforting to those who are in covenant relationship with God. I believe that and I also understand that it can be disquieting to read about plagues, earthquakes, wars, pestilence, vials of wrath and a host of other prophetic utterances. I believe you have to glean the hope of the promises of God in the midst of what is written.

I am not going to tell you what I see in this prophetic passage I quoted. I will ask you to seek that glimmer of hope that comes from the promises of God. If we believe Romans 8:28 then we should be comforted in His promises and our calling.

Romans 8:28 (ESV) And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose.

Do you love God? Are you called? Have you found your purpose? Do you trust God? Do you believe His promises? If the answer is yes, then you should be able to find comfort in any prophesy. The Holy Spirit will bring into remembrance those promises and show you how they can comfort you when you need it the most.

2 Corinthians 1:4 (ESV) who comforts us in all our affliction, so that we may be able to comfort those who are in any affliction, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God.

That is a promise.
