Day 3

Luke 24:14 English Standard Version

On the Road to Emmaus

14 and they were talking with each other about all these things that had happened.

Events in life cause two to walk together in agreement, which has nothing to do with their destination. How and why they chose to walk together is by common agreement but does not explain their individual perspective. Sorting out perspective is not revelation of truth.

Matthew 18:20

For where two or three are gathered in my name, there am I among them.”

While these two are talking with one another about His death and resurrection Jesus joins them. At that time they did not recognize Jesus. One can assume that these two never saw Jesus face to face but neither have we, not physically. His joining us now as we come together in His name is a matter of the Spirit by faith.

John 3:8

The wind blows where it wishes, and you hear its sound, but you do not know where it comes from or where it goes. So it is with everyone who is born of the Spirit.”

Were either of these men walking together in agreement born again believers? The timing and their conversations does not indicate that they were. That did not stop Jesus from joining the conversation. We tend to think that we have to have spiritual ears and eyes to know Jesus.

The bible makes our God known to all people. God does not hide His countenance from mankind. Knowing God has never been the issue.

Matthew 7:22-23 English Standard Version

22 On that day many will say to me, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and cast out demons in your name, and do many mighty works in your name?’ 23 And then will I declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from me, you workers of lawlessness.’

One translation renders lawlessness as “unauthorized works”. I prefer that understanding and here is where my clarity is found.

Luke 24:27

And beginning with Moses and all the Prophets, he interpreted to them in all the Scriptures the things concerning himself.

He will correct our understanding concerning all that we have been taught. He renews our minds. No amount of reasoning can define truth. He is a revelation.

Day 2

Luke 24:13 English Standard Version

On the Road to Emmaus

13 That very day two of them were going to a village named Emmaus, about seven miles from Jerusalem,

The two, in agreement, destination home. Walking seven miles seems like a long distance to us. We can drive that far in a matter of minutes. The point here is not the distance nor the mode of transportation, not even the starting point, but rather where is home?

John 14:23

Jesus answered him, “If anyone loves me, he will keep my word, and my Father will love him, and we will come to him and make our home with him.

The home we seek is not one of our own making. A roof over our head and a name on a deed does not identify this home. It is defined by who we love, who loves us and defined by God in a manner we cannot establish for ourselves.

Psalm 45:7

you have loved righteousness and hated wickedness. Therefore God, your God, has anointed you with the oil of gladness beyond your companions;

An interesting concept in walking together with a companion is even with common goals and common experiences, our anointings are different and our joys are our own. In order to validate that idea allow me to jump forward and point out that only one is mentioned by name in verse 18 Cleopas. Even in agreement, they are not the same, even while walking together one may receive recognition and the other does not.

Allow me to point out the obvious here, God is in control of who gets an honorable mention and that has nothing to do with His great love for us. It is not a slight, do not take it personally.

Has it happened to me? Yes, that is why I can identify with the one who remains nameless. This is why in the beginning I said I would be sharing my insights from my journey.

Hang on, this is just day 2 of our journey of which I have been on for decades. Hopefully it will not take that long to go through this walk to Emmaus.
