Order of Events

Genesis 2:25

And the man and his wife were both naked and were not ashamed.

I have been trying to wrap my head around sin and sin offerings and it seems to me that the order of events is important. I could be wrong, but here I am again, looking at the order of events. We all have read the events surrounding original sin. We know that God has already told Adam not to eat of the tree of knowledge of good and evil, verse 2:17.

Genesis 3:9

But the Lord God called to the man and said to him, “Where are you?”

God called out to Adam, not Eve. Eve ate first but God did not call out to Eve,

Genesis 3:11

He said, “Who told you that you were naked? Have you eaten of the tree of which I commanded you not to eat?”

I am not interested in Adam’s and Eve’s lame excuses, only in God’s communication at this point.

Genesis 3:14

The Lord God said to the serpent, “Because you have done this, cursed are you above all livestock and above all beasts of the field; on your belly you shall go, and dust you shall eat all the days of your life.

Thus the consequences of sin begin and the first one to suffer the consequences for their part in all this is the serpent, that snake in the grass, Satan.

Genesis 3:16

To the woman he said, “I will surely multiply your pain in childbearing; in pain you shall bring forth children. Your desire shall be contrary to your husband, but he shall rule over you.”

Now it is Eve’s turn but God does not name her sin as He did with Satan, just the consequences.

Genesis 3:17

And to Adam he said, “Because you have listened to the voice of your wife and have eaten of the tree of which I commanded you, ‘You shall not eat of it,’ cursed is the ground because of you; in pain you shall eat of it all the days of your life;

God names Adam’s sin. Why didn’t God name Eve’s sin?

Sacrifice

  • Ephesians 6:17
and take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God,
  • Hebrews 4:12
For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart.

What does the Sword of the Spirit have to do with sacrifice?

Leviticus 4:24

and shall lay his hand on the head of the goat and kill it in the place where they kill the burnt offering before the Lord; it is a sin offering.

According to the law of the sacrifices, the individual who has sinned kills the sacrifice for sin himself and it is not done by the priest.

Luke 9:23

Take Up Your Cross and Follow Jesus

And he said to all, “If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me.

According to the law of the sacrifice one can only make a sin offering if that individual knows they have offended God. ref Leviticus 4:13

The reason Jesus instructed His followers to pick up their own cross was to have the place of the cross to lay down their sin sacrifices once they were made known to them by the Spirit of Truth.

Denial of self can only come after the Spirit of Truth reveals the intention of the heart.

The bible can tell you what sin is but only the Spirit of Truth can identify which sins are to be sacrificed because of the intentions of the heart.

The father of lies will tell you that you are not worthy but that matter was already settled between you and God the Father when you placed your faith in the atoning work of Jesus Christ.

Worthiness cannot be nullified by unintentional sin.
