Psalm 89:15 Blessed is the people that know the joyful sound: they shall walk, O Lord, in the light of thy countenance.
Psalm 119:105, 130 Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path. The entrance of thy words giveth light; it giveth understanding unto the simple.
No one likes to be called simple, so allow me to clarify this Hebrew word pĕthiy. The Hebrew-Chaldee Lexicon also defines it to mean opened minded and unskilled. While the unskilled can find the help necessary to navigate through this new life, the skilled should remain open minded. Pride easily sets in where great skills are found.
1 Corinthians 8:1ip … we know that we all have knowledge. Knowledge puffeth up…
No one likes a know it all. Truth should always be spoken with love, which is the last line of 1 Corinthians 8.1, but love edifies. Correction from the learned should be tempered with understanding, with compassion, as an offering and not as a sharp rebuke. The Word is simple.
Psalm 89:15 ends with the phrase “in the light of thy countenance.” In this case it is a facial expression, as in understanding the mind of one who is present, before you. This applies to the born again in that we have the indwelling Spirit of God. His expressions are often non-verbal, but yet still seen in the Light of His Word.
It takes a certain amount of skill to read His countenance properly.
2 Timothy 2:15 Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.
A person puffed up by knowledge, the know-it-all, tends to study the word less for understanding and uses it to prove himself to himself, not God. This begs to ask, what is God looking for from us in our studies?
