2 Timothy 2:15 Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.
“Rightly dividing in the Greek is orthotomeo {or-thot-om-eh’-o} which means
1) to cut straight, to cut straight ways
a) to proceed on straight paths, hold a straight course, equiv. to doing right
2) to make straight and smooth, to handle aright, to teach the truth directly and correctly
Rightly dividing implies direction, to know what course of action to follow, to follow God’s will in choosing our actions. Who among us has not sought God in making difficult choices? But who among has sought God’s counsel in the small things, our everyday course, in the most mundane actions of each day? Who among us while walking back to the office from a meeting has felt the presence of the Holy Spirit pulling you down another hallway, caused you stop suddenly at someone’s workspace, only to be caught up in a conversation where God joins you in the moment and blesses someone’s life?”
Quoted from Walking in the Spirit by Larry Perry
The secret to being God approved in your bible studies is hidden in the intent of your heart. We start out trying to know God. We eventually want to obey God. We look for change of life, are we any different? How many of us actually use the Word of God to receive directions for our daily life? Do you prayerfully open up your bible daily thinking, “Where are we going today Lord?” If you stop and think about following Jesus, doesn’t that mean He actively leads you in everything you do?
Much of my walk with Jesus began with avoiding being me. My mistakes of the past haunted me and I never wanted to step on those land mines again. The problem is that if you examine each and every footfall, making sure you don’t step wrong, you cannot see where you are going. God has a long range view for you. He knows where and when He wants you, each day of your life.
