Psalm 37:4 Delight thyself also in the Lord: and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart.
If you want more of Jesus, God will give you more of Jesus.
If you want the things of this world, you are on your own.
The epistles that Paul wrote can be considered a body of work. The sonnets and plays of William Shakespeare are considered his body of works.
What I did to serve my own selfish desires before I surrendered to Christ is my body of sin, the works of sin in my life. Christ did away with that body of work at the cross. Now I live for Christ.
Do I still sin? Yes, because I have not been translated into that incorruptible form yet. Do I serve sin? No. I am called to repent, turn back to God, and find forgiveness for the bad choices I make in this world. Forgiveness keeps me from building once again a body of work built on worldly desires. That is an ongoing process, my daily salvation.
Leviticus 25:14 And if thou sell ought unto thy neighbour, or buyest ought of thy neighbour’s hand, ye shall not oppress one another:
Those in the world want to oppress you. They make their living off your desires. Whatever the market will bear is their motto.
Philippians 4:5 Let your moderation be known unto all men. The Lord is at hand.
Do we control our appetites or give in to them?
1 Peter 2:2-3 As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby: If so be ye have tasted that the Lord is gracious.
That is a Kingdom desire not a worldly desire. Kingdom desires are meant to cause you to grow and get stronger. Worldly desires are meant to weaken you and cause you to die in despair.
