Ignorant Sin

2 Peter 2:21 English Standard Version (ESV) For it would have been better for them never to have known the way of righteousness than after knowing it to turn back from the holy commandment delivered to them.

We were speaking yesterday about walking in the light, Jesus is the light. He is the way of righteousness.

Philippians 3:9 English Standard Version (ESV) and be found in him, not having a righteousness of my own that comes from the law, but that which comes through faith in Christ, the righteousness from God that depends on faith.

Isaiah 58:2 English Standard Version (ESV) Yet they seek me daily and delight to know my ways, as if they were a nation that did righteousness and did not forsake the judgment of their God; they ask of me righteous judgments; they delight to draw near to God.

Much of this seeking righteousness by faith requires a commitment on our parts to seek Him, to draw near to the abiding Christ. While we are always in His abiding presence, that is one of the heart and not necessarily one of the mind. We think we know and yet discover by the course of consequences that perhaps we don’t know everything.

See the words of Isaiah, “as if they were a nation that did righteousness”. As if can be some really harsh words when we discover our “as if” in the light of God’s truth to be self-imposed and not God led.

Having heard the prayers of others that begin, “hey it’s me just checking in.” it makes me wonder why they were not aware of His presence all the time. He abides in us and never leaves us. Do we abandon Him? No, He is there even when we are paying more attention to other things.

Matthew 26:40 English Standard Version (ESV) And he came to the disciples and found them sleeping. And he said to Peter, “So, could you not watch with me one hour?”

Even Peter, James, and John could not remain alert. We all drift off.
