Micah 6:8 He hath shewed thee, O man, what is good; and what doth the Lord require of thee, but to do justly, and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with thy God?
Now is that too much to ask considering all that Jesus has done for us? It doesn’t sound like much does it? We all want to do right and we can see the need for mercy in this world. How about walking humbly with God?
Ever been part of a group where everyone wants to go do the same thing except one person? That one person is so insistent that plans have to be changed and in doing so you start resenting that person. That would tend to hurt the relationship wouldn’t it? Do you care enough about the relationship to leave the group and join that person?
God has a different agenda than the world. There will be times when He wants to do something different than your plans. To humble yourself isn’t about going along with God, that’s obedience of faith. Changing your plans without feeling the resentment is the humbling part.
Humility is a heart attitude not an act. God cares very much about your heart. The choice is always going to be yours. How you feel about your choice is also up to you.
Psalms 97:11 Light is sown for the righteous, and gladness for the upright in heart.
Thank you Larry, for calling attention to the difference of walking in obedience with God (the walk of faith) and the feeling of RESENTMENT when we have to change plans. This is the humbling part of the equation that is completely contrary to the way we are as humans. One of the ways of change is to take sides WITH God AGAINST self and maybe readers can come up with other ways. I am naturally self-centered, and have to work at it constantly. I am challenged by your post. I trust that we as readers all wish to become more Christlike as we live for our Lord Jesus in this world.
To me the mystery is how God can take sinners like us to perform His will. I am grateful He does.
