Render

Matthew 22:21b Render therefore unto Caesar the things which are Caesar’s; and unto God the things that are God’s.

How can you render unto Caesar that which is Caesar’s if you do not know what is Caesar’s? If you were to ask Caesar(s) what was his, he would declare everything is mine, even your loyalty.

What would be God’s declaration? What are the things of God?

John 3:35 The Father loveth the Son, and hath given all things into his hand.

According to the Word, all things at this moment belong to Jesus. But what about loyalty? Caesar demand loyalty, what does Jesus say about loyalty?

Luke 8:25 And he said unto them, Where is your faith? And they being afraid wondered, saying one to another, What manner of man is this! for he commandeth even the winds and water, and they obey him.

If you missed the point Jesus was making here, it was about faith. Where is your faith. Here is what the Word say’s about obedient faith.

Romans 16:25-26 Now to him that is of power to stablish you according to my gospel, and the preaching of Jesus Christ, according to the revelation of the mystery, which was kept secret since the world began, But now is made manifest, and by the scriptures of the prophets, according to the commandment of the everlasting God, made known to all nations for the obedience of faith:

Looking to the scripture to find the answer we must go all the way back to Adam whom God gave stewardship over His creation. Not ownership, stewardship. Nowhere in scriptures does God relinquish the commandment of stewardship of man over His creation.

All the commandments of stewardship are contained within the scriptures, including how to be a steward over Caesar(s) because they, like us, like all creation belong to Jesus Christ. This is unique in the rendering because God makes accommodations for living with Caesar(s) whereas Caesar(s) make no accommodations for living with God.

Be a Caesar or be a Steward of God but the only way to render unto both is in stewardship.

  1. Can you be a bit more specific and elementary for me. I’ve longed to understand this concept and it’s connection with obedience.
